The BAM Triathlon Festival weekend will be full of racing fun for the entire family...complete with a BAM Kid's Fun Run Friday night at the expo, the BAM Oly Tri on Saturday and the BAM Off-Road Duathlon & Doggie Dooathlon on Sunday. BAM KID'S FUN RUN (FRIDAY, JUNE 13TH)
.75 Mile Run - Soldier Hollow
The Kid's Fun Run course will be 100% contained within the Soldier Hollow Stadium and Expo area, the kid's will finish at the same line adults will on Saturday and Sunday. At the finish line each child will receive a finishers medal and refreshments, along with a t-shirt at packet pickup/registration. Parents are welcome to run with their children.

The swim takes place in the waters of the seven-mile-long Deer Creek Reservoir, which lies below Mt. Timpanogos at an elevation of approximately 5400 ft. Average high temperature for June at Deer Creek Reservoir is 79 degrees, while the average low temperature is 45 degrees. Water temperature will be around sixty degrees, as such, wetsuits are encouraged. After swimming one lap in the reservoir, you will exit out of the waters of Island Bay onto the beach where you will have a 250m run to the bike transition area. Wetsuit peelers will not be provided. The swim cutoff time is 1 hour, and the cutoff time to be out of T-1 is 1 hour 10 minutes.

22.9 Mile Bike - Heber & Midway
New for 2008's BAM, a one lap bike course! After your swim in the waters of Deer Creek Reservoir, you will be treated to a bike course that wanders through the Swiss like towns of Midway and Heber. Along the course you will encounter country farm roads, scenic mountain vista views and even a trip through downtown Midway. The new 1-lap bike course is a rolling 22.9 miles, which is sure to make for a competitive race. Athletes will finish the bike portion of their race at the Soldier Hollow Legacy Park (site of 2002 Winter Olympics cross country ski competitions!).

The Gooch Firm 5.92 Mile Run - Soldier Hollow
Athletes will be treated to the run and finish of a lifetime, as they compete on the same trails and in the same stadium as athletes of the 2002 Winter Olympics did!!! The run will take you along the winding cross country ski trails of the world-class Soldier Hollow Legacy Park, whose elevation varies between 5500 - 5800 ft. This is a runner's course, but strong athletes overall will do well with the challenges this course has to offer. Athletes will cross the finish line back at the stadium finish area of Soldier Hollow, in one of the most spectacular finishes in the sport of triathlon...we guarantee it!

The Gooch Firm 3.1 Mile Trail Run - Soldier Hollow

A shortened (and kinder) version of the BAM Tri run, BAM-X athletes will start their day by running 3.1 miles on the famed cross country ski trails of Soldier Hollow. Athletes will loop around the venue, running on 90% packed dirt trails with asphalt sections at the beginning and end near transition. This is a roller run course, with some of the more challenging BAM Tri run sections removed...a great off-road course for beginners & seasoned competitors alike! Kiddie wadding pools will be located every 1/2 mile on the run and at the finish line & transition areas for the Doggie "Doo"athlon canine competitors to drink out of and wade in to cool off.

The 2nd leg of the BAM-X Off Road Duathlon will consist of a 11 mile mountain bike ride. The course takes you through the trails of Wasatch Mountain State Park up above Soldier Hollow and then drops you down to the Deer Creek Reservoir access trail that runs along the West side of the lake. This will be a great course for beginners and experienced mountain bikers alike. For those athletes competing in the Doggie "Doo"athlon division, dogs will be dropped off to your handler (each athlete must provide their own handler, NO EXCEPTIONS) in the transition area during the bike portion of the race. NO DOGS ALLOWED ON BIKE COURSE. The dog will be picked back up in transition for the 2nd run leg portion after the bike leg is completed.

Time to get back on the cross country ski trails for the 2nd run in our BAM-X competitors day. Athletes will run the same course that they did for the first part of their race, covering 3.1 miles of trail in the Soldier Hollow venue. Competitors will cross the finish line in the same spot the BAM Tri did the day before, in the Soldier Hollow stadium...which is sure to be one of the most spectacular finishes our duathletes will have ever experienced. Kiddie wadding pools will be located every 1/2 mile on the run for dogs to drink out of and get in to cool off. Pools will also be located at the finish & transition areas.

2008 OFFICIAL COURSE NUTRITION PRODUCT - HAMMER NUTRITION
The 2008 Official Course Nutrition sponsor is Hammer Nutrition. Both the tri and du races will have self-supported bike portions, there will be no course nutritional assistance during that leg of each race. At T-1 & T-2 at both races, water and Hammer Nutrition Heed electrolyte drink will be available. On the run there will be an aid station at every mile. Each aid station will be stocked with Hammer Nutrition Heed and water. Hammer Gel will be provided at miles 2 & 4 on the tri run and at mile 2 on both runs of the duathlon. Kiddie swimming pools for our canine competitors cooling and hydrating needs will be available at each aid station and at the finish line for the Doggie Dooathlon.
TRIATHLON ROAD RESTRICTIONS
For the safety of all athletes and spectators, there will be a few traffic restrictions on Saturday. After the start of the swim, at approximately 6:45am, the westbound lane of Highway 189 will be slowed to 35MPH for one mile between Island Bay, at Deer Creek State Park, and Charleston until approximately 8:30AM, to allow athletes participating in the event to safely travel eastbound to SR 113. Access to this part of SR113 will be limited and delays are to be expected. Slowed vehicle traffic will continue to move east and west on the Highway 189 during the time period of 6:45-8:30AM. Athletes will no longer be allowed onto the bike course 1 hour and 10 minutes after the last swim wave enters the water. Traffic cones sectioning in the west side of the westbound lane will be pulled from Highway 189 and normal traffic will resume after the last cyclist has turned onto SR 113.
SPECTATOR GUIDE
There will be many great viewing opportunities for spectators at the Battle at Midway. Spectators will be able to shuttle to & from the swim start to watch the beginning of the triathlon on Saturday. Spectators don't need to worry about shuttling anywhere for Sunday's off-road race, as all the action will be based in the Soldier Hollow stadium area. The best area for viewing both races, will be at Soldier Hollow, where athletes will do the run portion of their race. Most of the run course is visible from the finish line viewing area, so bring your binoculars as you will be able to track your athlete for a good portion of the course!

From Salt Lake City: take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City. Take right turn on State Road 113 (100 South) to Midway. Take a left on 113 in Midway, and travel two miles. Turn right just before the railroad tracks and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park, Soldier Hollow is about 53 miles from downtown Salt Lake City.
From Park City: Take State Road 248 East to U.S. 40 to Heber City and then follow U.S. 40 to Highway 189. Take 189 to State Road 113, turn right onto State Road 113. Follow 113 until right after railroad tracks, turn left and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
From Provo: Take I-15 South to the Orem 8th north exit to US 189 drive east through Provo Canyon until you reach State Road 113. Turn left onto State Road 113, follow 113 until right after railroad tracks, turn left and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
DEER CREEK RESERVOIR - ISLAND BAY - Highway 189 Midway, UT 84049
For BIKE DROP OFF ONLY, NO SPECTATOR VEHICLES will be allowed at Island Bay RACE MORNING, all spectators & athletes must CATCH A SHUTTLE bus at the Soldier Hollow Legacy Park and be shuttled to the race start/swim venue. All spectators will then be shuttled back to transition 2 and the finish at Soldier Hollow.
From Salt Lake City: Take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City until you come to the edge of town, turn west onto Highway 189 and follow 189 to the Island Bay (norther most marina on Deer Creek). Deer Creek is located 10 miles south of Heber.
From Park City: Take State Road 248 East to U.S. 40 to Heber City and then follow above directions to Island Bay.
From Provo: Take I-15 South to the Orem 8th north exit to US 189 drive east through Provo Canyon until you reach Island Bay.
