THE BAM RACE FESTIVAL - JUNE 12TH - 13TH

The BAM Triathlon Festival weekend will be full of racing fun for the entire family...complete with a BAM Kid's Fun Run & 9K Trail Run Friday night at the expo, the BAM Tri & BAM Lite Tri on Saturday morning, and last but not least is the the BAM Off-Road Duathlon & Doggie "Doo"athlon on Saturday evening. BAM KID'S FUN RUN (FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH - 5PM)
.75 Mile Run - Soldier Hollow
The Kid's Fun Run course will be 100% contained within the Soldier Hollow Stadium and Expo area, the kid's will finish at the same line adults will on Saturday and Sunday. At the finish line each child will receive a finishers medal and refreshments, along with a t-shirt at packet pickup/registration. Parents are welcome to run with their children.

BAM 9K TRAIL RUN & 5K FUN RUN/WALK (FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH - 6PM)
9K Trail Run & 5K Fun Run/Walk - Soldier Hollow
New for 2009...a the BAM 9K Trail Run & 5K Fun Run/Walk. Athletes will be treated to sensory overload, as they compete on the same trails and in the same stadium as athletes of the 2002 Winter Olympics did!!! The run will take you along the winding cross country ski trails of the world-class Soldier Hollow Legacy Park, whose elevation varies between 5500 - 5800 ft. Runners will cross the finish line back at the stadium finish area of Soldier Hollow, in one of the most spectacular venues in the Nation! The race will take place Friday evening (June 12th, 6PM) during the expo & triathlon packet pickup.
Not ready to do the full 9K race, try our NEW 5K Fun Run/Walk...it's a non-competitive way to join in on the action at the BAM Race Festival. 5K participants start at the same time and and the same place as the 9K Trail Run on Friday Evening.

The TYR 1500 meter & 700 meter Swim - Deer Creek Reservoir, Island Bay

The swim takes place in the waters of the seven-mile-long Deer Creek Reservoir, which lies below Mt. Timpanogos at an elevation of approximately 5400 ft. Average high temperature for June at Deer Creek Reservoir is 79 degrees, while the average low temperature is 45 degrees. Water temperature will be around sixty degrees, as such, wetsuits are encouraged. BAM Tri athletes will swim a 2-lap 1500 meter course, while BAM Lite athletes will just swim 1-lap (700 meters total). Wetsuit peelers will not be provided. 22 Mile Bike - Heber & Midway
After your swim in the waters of Deer Creek Reservoir, you will be treated to a bike course that wanders through the Swiss like towns of Midway and Heber. Along the course you will encounter country farm roads, scenic mountain vista views and even a trip through downtown Midway. 2009's 1-lap bike course has fewer turns than 2008's, which is sure to make for a fast & competitive bike leg. Athletes will finish the bike portion of their race at the Soldier Hollow Legacy Park (site of 2002 Winter Olympics cross country ski competitions!). Both BAM Tri & BAM Lite athletes will complete the 22 mile bike course.

5.92 & 3.6 Mile Run - Soldier Hollow
Athletes will be treated to the run and finish of a lifetime, as they compete on the same trails and in the same stadium as athletes of the 2002 Winter Olympics did!!! The run will take you along the winding cross country ski trails of the world-class Soldier Hollow Legacy Park, whose elevation varies between 5500 - 5800 ft. BAM Tri athletes will cover the full 5.92 mile distance, while BAM Lite athletes will run a shortened 3.6 mile course. Athletes will cross the finish line back at the Soldier Hollow stadium, one of the most spectacular finishes in the sport...we guarantee it!

BAM-X OFF-ROAD DUATHLON COURSE (SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH - 5PM)
3.3 Mile Trail Run - Soldier Hollow
A shortened (and kinder) version of the BAM Tri run, BAM-X athletes will start off by running 3.3 miles on the famed cross country ski trails of Soldier Hollow. Athletes will loop around the venue, running on 90% packed dirt trails with asphalt sections at the beginning and end near transition. This is a roller run course, with some of the more challenging BAM Tri run sections removed...a great off-road course for beginners & seasoned competitors alike! Kiddie wadding pools will be located every 1/2 mile on the run and at the finish line & transition areas for the Doggie "Doo"athlon canine competitors to drink out of and wade in to cool off.

The 2nd leg of the BAM-X Off Road Duathlon will consist of a 7.5 mile mountain bike ride. There will be a new course this year that will be 100% confined within the Soldier Hollow venue. The course will consists of 2 laps (3.75 Miles per lap), making for a very spectator friendly race and a great course for beginners and experienced mountain bikers alike. For those athletes competing in the Doggie "Doo"athlon division, dogs will be held by your handler in a specified spot in the transition area during your 1st run portion & bike portion. Each athlete must provide their own handler, NO EXCEPTIONS. After your bike portion you can pick your dog up for the 2nd run portion to finish the race. NO DOGS ALLOWED ON BIKE COURSE.

Time to get back on the cross country ski trails for the 2nd run in our BAM-X competitors day. Athletes will run the same course that they did for the first part of their race, covering 3.3 miles of trail in the Soldier Hollow venue. Competitors will cross the finish line in the same spot the BAM Tri did the day before, in the Soldier Hollow stadium...which is sure to be one of the most spectacular finishes our duathletes will have ever experienced. Kiddie wadding pools will be located every 1/2 mile on the run for dogs to drink out of and get in to cool off. Pools will also be located at the finish & transition areas.

TRIATHLON & DUATHLON AID STATIONS:
The BAM bike portions of both the triathlon & duathlon will be self-supported, there will be no course nutritional assistance during that portion of each race. It is suggested you take at least one water bottle with you for the bike. At T-1 & T-2 of both the tri & du, water and Hammer Nutrition Heed drink will be available. On the run there will be an aid station at every mile, miles 1-5 for the triathlon...and miles 1 & 2 for the duathlon. Each aid station will be stocked with Hammer Nutrition Heed and water. Hammer Gel will be provided at run miles 2 & 4 for the triathlon, and mile 2 for the duathlon. There will be kiddie pools spaced every 1/2 mile on the BAM-X run for our canine competitors to drink from and cool off in during the Doggie "Doo"athlon.

Athletes will be able to park in the field that is just west of the triathlon transition area for packet pickup on Friday. There will be signs helping to direct you where to park. For a map of the General Parking Area for Friday packet pickup, CLICK HERE.
Triathlon Race Day Parking (Saturday Morning): There will be NO PARKING at Island Bay on race day for the triathlon!!! Athletes and spectators must take a shuttle from Soldier Hollow to Island Bay on Saturday morning. Parking will be allowed at Island Bay on Friday (2-9PM) & Saturday (4-6AM) for bike drop off and check-in. On Saturday, there will be be general & VIP parking at Soldier Hollow. VIP Parking passes are available for purchase during the Active.com race registration process or on Wed. & Friday at packet pickup for $10 (space is limited!). The VIP Parking area is RIGHT next to Transition 2, about a 50 meter walk from your car to the shuttle pickup! Those who register for VIP Parking will receive a Parking Pass in their registration packet on Friday, this pass should be hung on your rear view mirror. It is good for SATURDAY (RACE DAY) ONLY, there will be NO VIP PARKING on Friday for packet pickup/expo, Kid's Run or for the 9K Trail Run! DUATHLON PARKING
Duathlon Packet Pickup Parking (Friday): Athletes will be able to park in the field that is just west of the triathlon transition area for packet pickup on Friday. There will be signs helping to direct you where to park. For a map of the General Parking Area for Friday packet pickup, CLICK HERE.
Duathlon Race Day Parking (Saturday Evening): Athletes and spectators for the duathlon will be able to park right in the main Soldier Hollow parking lot (where Saturday's triathlon T-2 was located). There will once again be signs helping to point you in the right direction. There will be no VIP parking on Saturday evening (for the duathlon).
TRIATHLON ROAD RESTRICTIONS
For the safety of all athletes and spectators, there will be a few traffic restrictions on Saturday. After the start of the swim, at approximately 8:15am, the westbound lane of Highway 189 will be slowed to 35MPH for one mile between Island Bay, at Deer Creek State Park, and Charleston until approximately 10AM, to allow athletes participating in the event to safely travel eastbound to SR 113. Access to this part of SR113 will be limited and delays are to be expected. Slowed vehicle traffic will continue to move east and west on the Highway 189 during the time period of 8:15-10AM. Athletes will no longer be allowed onto the bike course 1 hour and 10 minutes after the last swim wave enters the water. Traffic cones sectioning in the west side of the westbound lane will be pulled from Highway 189 and normal traffic will resume after the last cyclist has turned onto SR 113.
SPECTATOR GUIDE
There will be many great viewing opportunities for spectators at the Battle at Midway. Spectators will be able to shuttle to & from the swim start to watch the beginning of the triathlon on Saturday. Spectators don't need to worry about shuttling anywhere for Sunday's off-road race, as all the action will be based in the Soldier Hollow stadium area. The best area for viewing both races, will be at Soldier Hollow, where athletes will do the run portion of their race. Most of the run course is visible from the finish line viewing area, so bring your binoculars as you will be able to track your athlete for a good portion of the course!

SOLDIER HOLLOW LEGACY PARK - 2002 Olympic Drive P.O. Box 2002 Midway, UT 84049
From Salt Lake City: take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City. Take right turn on State Road 113 (100 South) to Midway. Take a left on 113 in Midway, and travel two miles. Turn right just before the railroad tracks and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park, Soldier Hollow is about 53 miles from downtown Salt Lake City.
From Park City: Take State Road 248 East to U.S. 40 to Heber City and then follow U.S. 40 to Highway 189. Take 189 to State Road 113, turn right onto State Road 113. Follow 113 until right after railroad tracks, turn left and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
From Provo: Take I-15 South to the Orem 8th north exit to US 189 drive east through Provo Canyon until you reach State Road 113. Turn left onto State Road 113, follow 113 until right after railroad tracks, turn left and follow signs to Soldier Hollow. Located in Wasatch Mountain State Park.
DEER CREEK RESERVOIR - ISLAND BAY - Highway 189 Midway, UT 84049
For TRIATHLON BIKE DROP OFF ONLY, NO SPECTATOR VEHICLES will be allowed to park at Island Bay RACE MORNING, all spectators & athletes must CATCH A SHUTTLE bus at the Soldier Hollow Legacy Park and be shuttled to the race start/swim venue. All spectators will then be shuttled back to transition 2 and the finish at Soldier Hollow.
From Salt Lake City: Take I-80 East to Silver Creek Junction (exit 146). Go east on U.S. 40 past Jordanelle Reservoir toward Heber City until you come to the edge of town, turn west onto Highway 189 and follow 189 to the Island Bay (norther most marina on Deer Creek). Deer Creek is located 10 miles south of Heber.
From Park City: Take State Road 248 East to U.S. 40 to Heber City and then follow above directions to Island Bay.
From Provo: Take I-15 South to the Orem 8th north exit to US 189 drive east through Provo Canyon until you reach Island Bay.
